When my kids were little I would wrap 24 holiday books for the month of December. Every night they would open one to read. It was a count down to when Christmas was coming. Now that my kids are older we have changed it up by reading a Christmas chapter book, but we are still getting in that one on one time each night to share the love of reading. Below are a few of our favorites over the years. (Besides the classics of course!)

Plum How the Sugar Plum Fairy Got Her Wings
By: Robin Thompson
A book about a little orphan fairy that wishes for a family.

The Wishing Tree
By: Meika Hashimoto
A book about a little boy who makes a wish to bring joy to his town.
When he does the town repays him on Christmas night.

The Biggest Little Boy
By: Poppy Harlow
A book about a little boy who feels small in a big world.
He hopes for a big Christmas tree this year, but he comes
to realize he can be small and big at the same time.

How to Catch an Elf
By: Adam Wallace & Andy Elkerton
This book is full of fun rhymes and great pictures!

Home Alone 2 Lost In New York
These Pop Classic books have great pictures that tell these
classic movies in book form. We also love the Elf book!

Bear Stays Up For Christmas
By Karma Wilson
We love the Bear Series and this one is a holiday special.
Bear’s friends try to keep him from hibernating by bringing
him treats and keeping him occupied.

The Christmas Pig
By J.K. Rowling

On Christmas Eve night his toys come to life and he is taken on
an adventure to find his missing childhood stuffy.

Jake and the Gingerbread Wars
By E.G. Foley
This book is one book of a series of 9, but it can be read alone.
This has a little bit of Harry Potter, Oliver Twist and Victorian
Lore all mixed in one. Jake is an orphan who finds out he is an
heir of a powerful family with magical powers. He goes on an
adventure with his friends to capture an elf that wants a job in
Halloween Town.

Young Scrooge : A Very Scary Christmas Story
By R.L. Stine
Reading R.L. Stine brings back memories of my childhood,
so it was fun to share it with my kids. This book is about
Rick Scroogeman who hates Christmas. He is met by three
ghosts to change his mind, but instead of the classic Christmas
Carol tale Stine puts his own twist on it.
