Sacramento Zoo

We had a great time at the Sacramento Zoo today. They have a great variety of animals and is not overwhelming. Great for younger kids! We purchased our family pass for $150 which pays for itself in two visits for our family of 6. I like the fact that we can go for an hour and not feel bad leaving. Another perk is free parking!

The giraffes are one of our favorite animals to watch. They are so weird looking! You are able to feed them for a small fee and there are some great shady benches to sit and eat lunch.

The reptile and amphibian building is neat to walk through. They have snakes, spiders, frogs and all kinds of lizards.

The White Handed Gibbons are so much fun to watch. They sound like sirens and are all over the place. They are at their nosiest in the morning time.

The best time to come is early in the morning. The animals are more active and you can get good parking. You can bring outside food in and there are several shady spots near the animals to enjoy your lunch.

I was able to chat with a volunteer there about the zoo that is being built in Elk Grove. Some fun highlights I learned…The Sac Zoo now is 14 acres. The new one will be 70 acres. There will be rhinos, hippos and a heard of lions!! She said the lions can be heard 5 miles away. They will also have a restaurant over looking the zoo. Even when the zoo is closed the restaurant will be open. (Fancy!) The zoo will hopefully be built in 5 years. By that time our town will have grown even more!
